Come Forth!

The command had become a whisper,
LISTEN THEN IF YOU HAVE EARS,
I did not hear the pure living water of your Word,
Only the whistle and screech of the world
Touched my senses.

Grave clothes trapped my limbs,
I chose to be a prisoner.

The fountain bubbled,
I dared to drink,
And the cages in my heart, which fenced out God
Began to crumble.

The Lord broke the shell of my old life,
I surrendered,
And my nightmares on the battlefield
Gave way to joy.

The whisper became a command
And the water turned into wine,
“COME FORTH!” says Jesus,
His voice so often missed.

Leave castles made of sand,
And breathe the mountain air of the Spirit -
Who calls to quench our thirst.
